There was a lot of action in the stock market on April 16, with big investors buying and selling shares across several companies.
Strong buying in Sudarshan Chemical
Sudarshan Chemical Industries was one of the biggest highlights of the day. Two large investors - Nippon India Mutual Fund and Theleme India Master Fund - increased their stake in the company.
- Nippon India bought 1.76% stake (about 13.82 lakh shares) for roughly ₹112 crore
- Theleme bought 0.5% stake (around 4 lakh shares) for about ₹32 crore
- Both deals were done at around ₹810 per share
At the same time, some of the company’s promoters sold about 3% stake, which likely made these shares available for purchase.
This strong buying by big investors boosted confidence in the stock. As a result, Sudarshan Chemical’s share price jumped 7.74% to ₹878.6 on the NSE. The stock also broke out of a long period where it had been moving in a narrow range, which is often seen as a positive sign by traders.
Zee Shares Fall After Investor Exit
Zee Entertainment Enterprises shares came under pressure and fell by about 3%.
This drop may be linked to selling by Vanguard Group. One of its funds sold a 0.51% stake in the company, worth nearly ₹40 crore. When large investors sell shares, it can sometimes create negative sentiment in the market.
In another deal, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority completely exited M & B Engineering.
- ADIA sold its entire 2.26% stake for around ₹42 crore
- Most of these shares were bought by 360 ONE Asset Management
Despite this exit, M & B Engineering’s stock rose slightly by 1.74%, suggesting that buyers were willing to step in and absorb the selling.
Ind-Swift Laboratories also saw some stake reduction. Investor HCP Investments sold about 1.12% stake, worth nearly ₹6.9 crore. However, even after this selling, the stock rose around 1%, showing that market sentiment remained positive.
Overall takeaway
The day showed mixed activity in the market:
- Buying by big investors (like in Sudarshan Chemical) pushed stock prices higher
- Selling by large funds (like in Zee) led to declines
In some cases, stocks still rose despite selling, showing strong demand
In simple terms, where strong buyers stepped in, stocks went up - and where big investors exited, prices felt pressure .
